Cops in the Head Photograph above & left courtesy David Cooper Photography After a half-day of group building work, Cops in the Head addresses those internal voices that have embedded themselves in our psyche. It is not always external forces that oppress us -- sometimes internalized oppressors are equally powerful. Cops in the Head are the people in our heads who put up stop-signs and say, "you can1t do that", "you're stupid", "no good" -- all the people who have somehow put us down and over time have taken up residence inside us, affecting the way each of us listens, sees and acts. This workshop helps participants identify these voices and liberate themselves in a creative and entertaining way. Cops in the Head is also available as a two hour performance event. It is also an integral part of the Reclaiming Our Spirits workshops we have been conducting with various First Nations on healing from Residential School experiences. It can be used in any situation where the oppressor has become internalized. "The Reclaiming
Our Spirits workshop has affected me deeply. I feel like a new
person now, having let go of the past negative experiences that
I had throughout my life. I've learned to control the cops in
my head." The Rainbow of Desire or the
Cops in the Head are included as part of a full POWER PLAY session
(see below) on the second or third day of the workshop. |
