After 12 events in and around Vancouver, 2º will close with this truly international initiative. After the first three 2º events back in November, Adam Ward, a Joker from Washington, U.S.A. had an idea: why not invite the Jokers of the world to do similar events, to use the techniques to engage people on a personal level? Realizing March 16 was also Augusto Boal’s (funder of the Theatre of the Oppressed) birthday, we decided to honour his great work in this international way.
47 Jokers in 26 countries will activate their communities around global warning this March 16: Afghanistan, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Holland, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Moldova, Mozambique, Netherlands, Pakistan, Serbia, Sweden, Turkey, UK, USA and Wales. For full details, go to http://www.headlinestheatre.com/2Degrees08/jokers_events.htm
Join this global dialogue on March 16 and if in Vancouver, don’t miss the final night of 2º of Fear and Desire at Café Deux Soleils!
We are most grateful for the all the support offered by our 2º working group: Columbia Institute, David Suzuki Foundation, Ecojustice, Fraser Basin Council, Pembina Institute, Sierra Club of BC, Society Promoting Environmental Conservation, Wilderness Committee |
Any advice about U.S.A. Homeland Security? |
David was on his way to Sitka, Alaska to do a Theatre for Living workshop last month with what we and the Sitkan sponsors were told by US Immigration were the correct documents. (a request for a "B-1) He was taken into a room, interrogated, digitally fingerprinted, photographed, and refused entry into the US. Homeland Security insisted the documents were wrong and suggested that Headlines and the Sitkan organization were part of a money laundering scheme! This has affected other work this year in the United States. We have been gathering letters from people to support a very tedious and complex application for an "O-1" (a visa for an "Alien of Extraordinary Ability"). We are wondering, though, if any of our newsletter readers have experience with this and any insights? |
CALLOUT to participants: Theatre for Living workshop on Senior Abuse and Neglect |
Kitsilano Neighbourhood House is coordinating a FREE 3-day theatre workshop for Vancouver residents 55 and over. Facilitated by David, the workshop will build awareness about senior abuse and neglect in Vancouver. Seniors who have experienced or been affected by senior abuse or neglect are sought for this workshop. As the event is being organized by the Kitsilano Neighbourhood House, participants must live on the west side of Vancouver, be 55 or older, be able to attend a short orientation session in mid-March, and participate in the workshop Tuesday, March 25 through Thursday, March 27 from 9 – 4 pm (lunch and refreshments provided). A diversity of perspectives from within the community is welcomed. For more information, contact Jo Pleshakov at 604-737-9008 or email: jo@kitshouse.org
