This very timely production
focused into issues of death and dying, and recognized that the
patient is the living organism of the family. The Dying Game
was performed at the Roundhouse Community Centre in Vancouver.
It aired live on Rogers Community TV.
"I
have great admiration for Diamond's ability to take what was
so obviously a highly emotional experience in his life and rework
it into a theatrical experience that aims to provide such important
insights into an event we all will face at one time or another.
Diamond hoped that the audiences who see The Dying Game would
take back the insights they gained and bring them back to reality.
Judging by the audience response, I think he got his wish."
- Roxanne Davies, The Review (Feb. 20, 1998)
"Using
theatre as an investigative tool, Diamond draws on the experience
of everyone in the theatre. (The Dying Game) is a fascinating
process and its absolutely impossible not to imagine yourself
in the action - even if you don't physically intervene. There
were tears, frustration and anger - all in a safe, supportive
environment. Diamond does not promise to make it all go away
but he certainly set some lamps along that dark path."
- Jo Ledingham, Vancouver Courier (Feb. 22,1998).
